The Aim The aim of the Defensive Driving
Course is simple - to improve awareness of the real
risks associated with driving and to increase knowledge
and skills essential to safe and efficient driving.
|
 |
Pre-Course Requirements
All applicants must hold a current driver's licence (Probationary
Licences are acceptable) and will be required to produce the licence on the
day.
Neat casual dress should be worn on the course. (For safety
reasons, thongs and bare feet are not acceptable.)
Who Should Attend?
All driver's licence holders will benefit from this program,
so anybody who drives a motor vehicle either as part of a business fleet or
for personal use, should undertake this course.
If you are serious about minimising the risk of crash involvement
and ensuring that you get the best return for your dollar with efficient driving
techniques, then this course is for you. Fleet Operators, in particular, should
consider the savings to be made, because road crashes are the most common cause
of work-related deaths, injuries and absence from work in Australia.
Motor vehicle crashes are more likely than any other type of
work-related accident to result in death and permanent disability. |

The Course
The Defensive Driving Course has been designed after a thorough
review of road safety research into post-licence driving courses and is conducted
in conjunction with the Royal
Automobile Association (RAA).
Road safety researchers now believe that "brake and evade"
courses offer little benefit to participants in terms of future crash avoidance,
and that courses should focus on risk identification and driver attitudes.
- All aspects of this course have been professionally researched
and developed.
- All trainers have an extensive background in defensive driving
techniques and are fully qualified.
- Both the theory and practical components focus on "real
life" situations.
- Practical application of city, suburban, country and freeway
driving techniques, on both sealed and dirt roads
This one-day course will be conducted at the Transport Training
Centre at Regency Park. Fleet bookings are also available.
On successfully completing the course, participants will have
gained important knowledge on how their mindset affects their driving safety,
as well as improved practical skills to help deal with situations encountered
in everyday driving.
Participants will also be sent a series of information sheets
after their training, to expand the number of topics addressed and extend the
overall training period. These sheets can be used for group discussions within
fleet meetings.
